Background

Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google, not a company, and nothing — no donation, grant, contract, sponsorship, or statement about Israel — has been documented in the Android brand's own name. Android is developed by Google LLC, whose documented actions are recorded on the Google page and include the Project Nimbus cloud contract with the Israeli government, a consulting arrangement and 'landing zone' for the Israeli Ministry of Defense inside Google Cloud, the Google Cloud region opened in Tel Aviv, the Google.org relief grants of October 2023 that were split between Israeli and Palestinian organizations, and R&D centers in Tel Aviv and Haifa; the ultimate parent Alphabet Inc. separately committed a $25 million five-year skills-development program in Israel, recorded on the Alphabet page. None of those were made by or through Android. Claims that 'Android supports Israel' generally restate the parent's Google Cloud business or point to the Israeli technology industry's use of Android — Android's open-source code and Google Play are available to developers in Israel as they are elsewhere, which is ordinary commercial availability rather than support of a state. Android is not named on the BDS movement's official targeted-boycott list.
