Background

No donation, investment, acquisition, contract, sponsorship or statement of support concerning Israel has been documented at the Reddit corporate level. Reddit has no office, subsidiary or engineering site in Israel, and no Israeli acquisition. The recurring claim that Reddit is 'owned by Israeli interests' is not supported by its ownership record: Advance Publications, the Newhouse family holding company behind Condé Nast, has been the largest shareholder since Condé Nast bought Reddit in 2006 and held roughly a third of the company after the March 2024 IPO, and Tencent invested $150 million as part of a $300 million round in 2019 — both disclosed in Reddit's SEC filings. Claims that Reddit 'supports Israel' or suppresses one side run instead on moderation: pro-Palestinian users and outlets have accused subreddit moderators and Reddit itself of removing or throttling their content, and pro-Israeli users have made mirror-image complaints. Volunteer moderators run individual subreddits, and moderation disputes — whoever raises them — are not evidence of financial or material support in either direction.
