Background

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill + Bar is a brand of Dine Brands Global, Inc. of Pasadena, California, which also owns IHOP and Fuzzy's Taco Shop. Applebee's has never operated a restaurant in Israel. The company's own SEC filings settle the question across a quarter of a century: the annual report for the 2025 financial year lists every country in which the brands trade — the Bahamas, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — and Israel is not among them, while the older Applebee's International annual reports for 2001 and 2006, which list every domestic and international development agreement, likewise contain no Israeli territory or franchisee. No donation, in-kind aid, statement, investment, contract, sponsorship or partnership supporting Israel has been documented for Applebee's, for Dine Brands or for any of their franchisees, before or since October 2023, and the company has issued no statement on the war. One recurring trap in the paperwork is worth naming: the word "Israel" that appears in the group's SEC filings is a person's first name, not the country — in the old franchise exhibits it is David S. Israel of the Wisconsin Hospitality Group, and in the 2025 shareholder filings it is Israel A. Englander, the founder of Millennium Management, which reported a passive stake in Dine Brands. Applebee's is not on the BDS movement's official boycott target list and no fact-checked claim ties it to Israel.

In the legacy Applebee's International filings the only occurrences are the surname of the franchisee principal David S. Israel.
