Background

Carrefour is one of the most prominent post-October 7 boycott cases, and precise attribution matters: the Israeli stores belong to franchisee Electra Consumer Products/Yenot Bitan (legally Global Retail Ltd.) under a 2022 franchise deal — the French group owns no stores there. The October 2023 soldier-support announcements came from the Israeli franchisee's stores; Carrefour's account shifted from calling it a franchisee initiative to 'donation initiatives by individuals working in our stores', which it says ceased by mid-October 2023. CEO Alexandre Bompard has repeatedly said (2023, 2024, and May 2025) that Carrefour-branded stores are barred from occupied territory and that none exist there; a joint NGO report (Al-Haq, AFPS, CGT, LDH and others, first published Nov 2022, updated May 2026) and Who Profits both document that, as of March 2026, two of the franchisee's stores in the Maccabim and Neve Ya'akov settlements do carry the Carrefour brand, alongside six more of the franchisee's stores in other West Bank settlements trading under its other banners — see the dedicated evidence item above and the franchisee's own page for the branch-level detail. (formerly Yenot Bitan) carried the Carrefour brand while located in Israeli settlements: one in the Maccabim settlement (Modi'in) and one in Neve Ya'akov (East Jerusalem). The Who Profits research centre's company profile independently lists the same two Carrefour-branded settlement locations. The stores themselves are owned and operated by the Israeli franchisee, not by Carrefour S.A. — but the finding directly contradicts the French CEO's own repeated public claim, which is why it is recorded here rather than only on the franchisee's page.
