Does Chevron support Israel?

Acquired Noble Energy in an all-stock deal valued at about $5 billion (~$13 billion including debt), becoming the operator of Israel's two largest natural gas fields: Leviathan (39.66% stake) and Tamar (25%).

Operates Tamar and Leviathan via subsidiary Chevron Mediterranean Ltd.; the fields supply most of the natural gas used for Israel's electricity generation and export to Egypt and Jordan. Continued operating both fields through the 2023–24 war, restarting Tamar in November 2023 on the Israeli Energy Ministry's instruction.

ynet reported that the Israel Nature and Parks Authority's 2021 budget, approved by the government on 31 July 2022, included donations "from the company Chevron (Ratio Oil Explorations)" totalling NIS 110,000 for the 'Ani Carmeli' education programme. Ratio is a separate Israeli company, Chevron's partner in the Leviathan field, so the sum may be shared with Ratio or be Ratio's; the report does not say what Chevron itself paid. The environment minister said from the 2022 budget the authority would accept no donations from polluting companies.

With partners, took the final investment decision on the $673 million Tamar Phase 1 expansion to raise production, partly for export to Egypt.

Chevron Mediterranean Limited, the subsidiary that operates Tamar and Leviathan, says on its Israel site that it has funded community aid out of dedicated budgets since October 2023: it helped establish the My Wave (Hagal Sheli) centre in Ashkelon, which serves released hostages and their relatives and residents of the Gaza border area, and it supports the Alon Center for reservists returning to civilian life, a Derech Eretz pre-military academy in Ashkelon, and programmes in Negev Bedouin communities, the Mateh Asher area in the north and Druze communities in the Golan. Jeff Ewing, who heads Chevron's Eastern Mediterranean business, told the Maariv–Walla economic conference in March 2025 that the company had helped donate to the My Wave centre, had supplied resources to a Tel Aviv University trauma-care programme that includes scholarships for social-work students, and had "invested millions of shekels" in aid to various centres. Neither source itemises the spending, so no amount is recorded here.

Part of the same war-response programme: Chevron pays a "Chevron Student Teachers Scholarship" for education students at Tel-Hai College in the north, run with the Heznek La'Atid association, and a scholarship for social-work students run with the National Union of Israeli Students to build up a generation of trauma therapists; holders are mentored and accompany bereaved families supported by the Israeli Defence Ministry's rehabilitation department. The two ynet features that describe the scholarships, on 18 September and 3 November 2025, are advertising content published in cooperation with Chevron Mediterranean Limited rather than independent reporting, and no amount is given in them or on Chevron's own site.

Took the final investment decision with partners on the full Leviathan expansion — three new wells and infrastructure to lift capacity to roughly 21 BCM per year by the end of the decade.

Chevron's Eastern Mediterranean managing director said the Leviathan project underscores the company's commitment "to partner with the State of Israel to develop natural gas resources and provide essential energy to millions of people in Israel, Egypt, and Jordan."

Chevron Israel runs the company's Humankind programme locally: an employee may donate to a social non-profit and Chevron matches that donation, and the company also gives to organisations in proportion to the volunteer hours its employees log. This is employees' money with a company match rather than a corporate gift, and the company's Israel site, read on 26 September 2026, puts no figure on either part.
