Facebook is a brand and product of Meta Platforms, Inc., and no donation, investment, contract, or statement of support for Israel has been documented in the Facebook brand's own name. This is Facebook's parent Meta Platforms, whose documented actions are recorded on the Meta Platforms page: the October 2023 corporate condemnation of Hamas, the 2013 acquisition of the Israeli startup Onavo, and the Tel Aviv R&D center opened in its wake. Those pre-2021 moves were made by 'Facebook, Inc.' — the same legal entity that renamed itself Meta in October 2021 — so they are the parent company's corporate history, not actions of the Facebook app or brand as it exists today, and Meta has announced no corporate donations to Israel. Viral 'Facebook supports Israel' claims center on content moderation rather than money: Human Rights Watch documented in December 2023 what it called systemic over-moderation of peaceful Palestinian content on Facebook and Instagram, which Meta disputes. Moderation disputes are documented controversy, not evidence of financial or material support in either direction. The more than $11.5 million raised for relief in Israel and Palestine through Facebook and Instagram fundraising tools was given by users, not by the platform, and Facebook is not on the BDS movement's official targeted-boycott list.
