Background
Apart from that market presence, which ended in 2007, no donation, campaign, statement, investment or contract in support of Israel by Nando's has been documented. Nando's is a South African company headquartered in Johannesburg, wholly owned by Dick Enthoven until his death in 2022 and now by his family; co-founder Robbie Brozin is a South African Jew and his relatives ran the Israeli business, which is the strongest personal connection on record — a family tie is not a corporate donation, and no gift by Brozin or the company to Israeli or IDF-linked causes was found. Boycott pages that call for action against Nando's over "its operations in Israel" are out of date: the Israeli restaurants closed in 2007 and the brand's Middle Eastern footprint since then has been in Arab markets. Nando's is privately held, so there are no SEC filings, and no corporate PAC or US foundation in its name exists. We therefore report the historical operation and no records of support; our records are a floor, not a ceiling.

The Israeli business opened in 1993 as "Nando's Chickenland" and was held in equal parts by the global chain itself and by Daniel and Kenny Brozin, relatives of co-founder Robert (Robbie) Brozin, with Daniel Brozin as chief executive — so unlike most of the brand's markets this was not a pure arm's-length franchise: Nando's the company carried an equity stake in the Israeli operation. It grew from five restaurants in 1998 to about fifteen by 2003, was sold in August 2005 to a new local operator (Adi Global) after financial trouble, and ended when licence-renewal talks failed: in December 2007 the Tel Aviv District Court granted Nando's International a temporary injunction barring the Israeli operator from using the brand, alleging unmet hygiene standards and unpaid royalties. The chain has had no Israeli presence since. |
