Background

Shell has no recorded donations, investments, or operations in Israel. Its history points the other way: Shell's local distribution business (Shell Palestine) was sold in 1958 and became Israel's Paz Oil Company, after Saudi Arabia threatened to deny facilities to Shell and BP if they kept operating in Israel during the Arab-boycott era. Through its 2016 acquisition of BG Group, Shell briefly held the license for the Gaza Marine gas field offshore the Gaza Strip — a Palestinian-territory asset — and divested it in 2018. Boycott lists sometimes name Shell over claims that it supplies crude oil to Israel through commodity trading; those claims trace to advocacy reports, and we found no verified Shell donation, investment, or Israeli operation. Shell also did not take part in Israel's October 2023 offshore licensing round, whose licenses went to SOCAR, BP, NewMed, Eni, Dana Petroleum, and Ratio.
