Background

Separately, in March 2023 BP and Abu Dhabi's ADNOC offered about $2 billion for 50% of NewMed Energy, the largest stakeholder in Israel's Leviathan gas field. The talks were suspended in March 2024, with the parties citing uncertainty in the external environment amid the war, and the acquisition was never completed.
