Background

Checkmarx is an Israeli-founded company under American private-equity ownership, and both halves of that sentence matter. Maty Siman — who had served in the Israeli military's Mamram and Matzov computing units and advised the Israeli Prime Minister's Office until February 2006 — founded it that year with Emmanuel Benzaquen, and its headquarters and development centre are still in Ramat Gan, holding about 450 of roughly 900 employees, half the company. Ownership, however, has been American since 2015: Insight Partners bought it for $84 million, Hellman & Friedman and TPG took it over on April 16, 2020 in a $1.15 billion all-cash deal, and by September 2024 Hellman & Friedman held 90 percent and was looking for an exit at a minimum of $2.5 billion. This research pass found no documented corporate donation, employee-matching programme, in-kind contribution, reservist-support scheme or official company statement by Checkmarx relating to Israel after the October 7, 2023 attack, in English or Hebrew sources; JLens's June 2025 survey of companies that stepped up for Israel after October 7 does not mention it either, and Israeli coverage of the company since the war has concerned the attempted sale, a change of chief executive and the pressure that AI coding tools have put on the code-scanning market it shares with Snyk and GitHub. Checkmarx does not appear on the BDS movement's consumer-boycott target lists, which concentrate on retail brands rather than developer security software.

Operations in Israel2006Israel (Ramat Gan headquarters and development centre, jobs)
Checkmarx was founded in Israel in 2006 by Maty Siman, its chief technology officer, and Emmanuel Benzaquen, who led it as chief executive for seventeen years until Sandeep Johri took over in 2023. Siman had served in the Israeli military's Mamram and Matzov computing and information-security units and worked as an adviser at the Israeli Prime Minister's Office until February 2006, immediately before founding the company. Checkmarx makes application-security testing and software-supply-chain risk software. CTech reported in September 2024 that its headquarters and development centre are both in Ramat Gan and that about 450 of its roughly 900 employees are in Israel — half the company — while English-language reference sources list a US headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, the company having earlier used a US base in Paramus, New Jersey. Attribution note: Checkmarx is an Israeli-founded company whose largest single concentration of staff is in Israel, but its equity is owned by American private-equity firms and its US operations are run from Georgia; describing it flatly as 'an Israeli company' would omit the ownership, and describing it as American would omit the workforce.
Acquisition2020-04-16$1,150,000,000Insight Partners and other Checkmarx shareholders (sellers); Hellman & Friedman with TPG (buyers)
On April 16, 2020 the American private-equity firm Hellman & Friedman completed its acquisition of Checkmarx in an all-cash transaction valuing the company at $1.15 billion, buying it from Insight Partners, which had itself acquired Checkmarx in 2015 for $84 million and retained a minority interest; TPG joined as a minority partner. The company's own release of that date described Checkmarx as founded in 2006 and headquartered in Ramat Gan, Israel, with more than 700 employees and about 1,400 customers in 70 countries, led by chief executive Emmanuel Benzaquen and founder and chief technology officer Maty Siman. By September 2024 CTech reported Hellman & Friedman holding 90 percent of the shares, with the remaining 10 percent spread among founders and employees, and the owner seeking an exit at a minimum of $2.5 billion. Attribution note: this is a commercial change of ownership between investment firms. Checkmarx is today controlled by an American private-equity house; the money moved between shareholders and none of it went to any Israeli institution.
