Does Comcast support Israel?

On October 13, 2023, six days after the Hamas attack, Comcast NBCUniversal — the company's own umbrella name for this announcement, spanning Comcast Corporation, NBCUniversal and Sky — said it had committed $2 million to humanitarian relief; $1.5 million of that was donated immediately, split among Save the Children Federation, Doctors Without Borders, Direct Relief, and American Friends of Magen David Adom for relief in Israel and the region. One recipient (American Friends of Magen David Adom) funds Israel's national emergency medical service; the other three are neutral humanitarian organizations.

The same October 13, 2023 Comcast NBCUniversal announcement committed up to $500,000 in corporate matching funds for employee donations to the same four relief organizations, on top of the company's existing Matching Gift Program — completing the $2 million total commitment.

Brian L. Roberts, Chairman & CEO of Comcast Corporation, and Mike Cavanagh, President of Comcast Corporation, sent a message on October 10, 2023 shared with employees across Comcast, NBCUniversal and Sky: "We are horrified and deeply saddened by the brutal attack on Israel. Our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones through unspeakable acts of terrorism and the devastation of war." NBC News also aired primetime specials on the attacks and Xfinity curated a news destination for customers.

Comcast Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Comcast Corporation (narrowed since 2020 to strategic investments supporting Comcast's businesses, not shut down), participated in Israeli AI startup AI21 Labs' Series C round — a $53 million extension announced November 21, 2023, during the war, bringing the round to $208 million at a $1.4 billion valuation (Comcast's individual share undisclosed). Comcast Ventures has also backed other Israeli startups including BigID, K Health, and Juganu.
