Background

Dove is a Unilever brand with no separate corporate existence: everything documented about Dove and Israel is the act of Unilever Israel, Unilever's wholly owned Israeli company, which has manufactured and marketed in Israel since 1938, employs about 2,000 people and produces roughly 85% of its range locally (Telma, Knorr, Bagel Bagel and others — Dove itself is supplied from abroad). At parent level, Unilever's CEO said in July 2021 that the company was "fully committed" to its business in Israel, and in June 2022 Unilever corporate settled with its Israeli licensee Avi Zinger and sold him the Israeli Ben & Jerry's business while stating it had "never expressed any support for the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement" — details on the Unilever page. No donation, in-kind gift or statement of support for the Israeli state, army or any Israeli organisation has been documented for the Dove brand itself. Boycott lists that name Dove do so because of Unilever's Israeli operations and the Ben & Jerry's affair, not because of any action taken by Dove. One figure from the Israeli press is deliberately not recorded here: in March 2004 Unilever Israel launched a seven-product Dove Face skincare line with an investment of about one million dollars in introducing that range to the Israeli market — a range Unilever had already launched in the United States in August 2003 — and the launch was supported by a Fogel Levin advertising campaign with a television spot, press ads and point-of-sale activity. In January 2005, about a year after the launch, TheMarker reported that Unilever was taking Dove out of the facial-care category following a global review of that category, and that in Israel the decision would be implemented only partially; Unilever Israel responded that it had decided to narrow the product range and move the products to the toiletries shelf alongside Dove's other leading products, and that the Israeli launch had exceeded the company's forecasts. The money was spent on putting a product range into a market and no Israeli institution received any of it, so it is not listed as evidence.

Dove was launched in Israel in 1996 — with bar and liquid soaps and deodorants — by Unilever Israel, Unilever's wholly owned Israeli company, and Dove remains a core brand of its personal-care portfolio. The operating party is Unilever Israel (about 2,000 employees, headquarters in Airport City, plants in Safed, Acre, Arad and Haifa), not a Dove entity: Dove has no company or factory of its own in Israel.
