Schweppes is not a single company's brand — the trademark is split by territory, and Israel is the clearest example: since February 2007 the name has been owned outright there by Jafora-Tabori, an independent Israeli beverage manufacturer that bought it from Cadbury Schweppes for NIS 9 million and makes Schweppes in Israel alongside Tapuzina, Spring, Crystal and RC Cola. Coca-Cola, Keurig Dr Pepper and Suntory each own Schweppes in other territories, and none of them owns or licenses it in Israel; nor is it produced by the Central Bottling Company, Coca-Cola's independent Israeli franchisee. No donation, in-kind gift, sponsorship or statement of support for Israel, its government or its military has been documented for the Schweppes brand or for Jafora-Tabori. The older history runs the other way: in 1987 a leaked letter showed Cadbury Schweppes' managing director offering the Arab League boycott office in Damascus to terminate his subsidiary's bottling and trademark arrangements with Israel's Jaf-Ora company — the predecessor of today's Jafora-Tabori, employing 400 people — by April 1989, while telling the boycott office he expected production in Israel to continue; Cadbury Schweppes was later removed from the Arab blacklist. Because the brand's Israeli rights are Israeli-owned, claims that buying Schweppes in Israel funds a foreign multinational, or that boycotting it pressures Coca-Cola, are factually wrong.
