Yum! Brands owns KFC and Taco Bell. It owned Pizza Hut until 2026: on 16 June 2026 it agreed to sell Pizza Hut for $2.7 billion in the aggregate — Pizza Hut outside mainland China to the private equity firm LongRange Capital for about $1.5 billion ($1,488,000,000 in cash under the purchase agreement), and Pizza Hut in mainland China to Yum China for $1.2 billion — and it completed the sales on 7 August 2026 (China) and 1 September 2026 (rest of world). Yum's brands in Israel are run by independent local franchisees: KFC Israel by a local franchisee since its 2020 return, and Pizza Hut Israel by Udi Shamai's Tabasco Holdings, which was Yum's franchisee until the Pizza Hut sale closed on 1 September 2026. Yum corporate's direct ties to Israel are its 2021 acquisitions of two technology companies whose teams are based in Israel (Tictuk Technologies of Tel Aviv and Dragontail Systems). The boycott campaigns against Pizza Hut stem from the Israeli franchisee's actions — the 2017 ad mocking the Palestinian prisoners' hunger strike and the January 2024 soldier photos — after which the BDS movement endorsed Pizza Hut as an "organic boycott target". No donation by Yum corporate to the Israeli military or government has been documented. Pizza Hut Israel's Instagram account reposted images of Israeli soldiers holding stacks of Pizza Hut boxes, posted on Friday 19 January 2024, one captioned "For the love of Israel". The claim that the meals were free and delivered to Israeli military bases traces to posts by the Palestinian outlet Quds News Network, which Al Jazeera cited and Euronews Arabic repeated in its own voice; Newsweek could not verify it, and Yum! Brands corporate did not comment. The act was the Israeli franchisee's, not Yum corporate's: it set off #BoycottPizzaHut, which passed 136,000 posts on X within days, and the BDS movement endorsed Pizza Hut as an "organic boycott target". Yum sold its Pizza Hut business outside mainland China, including the franchising of Pizza Hut restaurants, on 1 September 2026, so it is no longer Pizza Hut Israel's franchisor.
