DHL Group is the German logistics group formerly named Deutsche Post DHL; this site's category vocabulary has no freight-and-logistics pillar, so it is filed under the closest available category alongside other carriers. Most of its Israel record is business: it bought its way into the Israeli express market in 2007 by acquiring Flying Cargo's international delivery business, and it has since made Israel the site of a nine-thousand-square-metre sorting hub that its own local management says handles about half of the country's import logistics. The entry that puts DHL in the support column is a sports sponsorship: DHL Express Israel has sponsored Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club since 2011, and on 1 September 2021 extended the deal by three seasons to a total of thirteen years, at more than NIS 1 million per season and more than NIS 13 million in all since 2011. DHL International GmbH bought the international delivery business of Flying Cargo Ltd, then Israel's largest delivery and customs-agency company, founded in the early 1980s by Daniel and Avraham Reik and employing more than 1,000 people; Globes reported the delivery business as worth about $100 million. Calcalist, ONE and the club's own announcement — which all carry the same press-release wording — put the cumulative sponsorship at more than NIS 13 million since 2011 and value the current agreement at more than NIS 1 million per season, though the club's own headline calls the extension worth more than one million dollars; the club had earlier stated the 2017/18 season alone at about NIS 1.2 million. DHL Express keeps its yellow branding on the free-throw circles of the club's arena and runs hospitality events for its staff and customers. DHL Express opened what it described as its largest and most advanced sorting centre in Israel, near Ben Gurion Airport in Lod — the company's largest investment in Israel to that date. The Hebrew trade outlet PORT2PORT reported the same launch as an investment of about $70 million and said it completed a run of investments in DHL's Israeli branch totalling roughly NIS 1 billion; it also quoted Bitton saying DHL Express Israel would keep working “with a sense of responsibility and mission to help the global development of the Israeli economy”. The Israeli systems integrator Malam Team completed a two-year project for DHL Express Israel, reported by the Hebrew trade outlet PORT2PORT on 26 June 2022 at a cost of more than NIS 500,000. It implemented a rear air-terminal module in Malam's FOCUS ERP software at DHL's Airport City site, covering courier consignments, independent customs clearance, an electronic bonded warehouse and the link between DHL's systems and the site's robotic sorter.
