Background

Disney+ is a service of The Walt Disney Company, and the financial support recorded in this project sits at the parent level: in October 2023 Disney pledged $2 million in humanitarian aid — $1 million to Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service, and $1 million to organisations working on children's welfare in the region — and matched employee donations up to $25,000 per employee. Those are Walt Disney Company actions, documented on the Disney page; no donation, sponsorship or political spending has been announced in the Disney+ brand's own name. At brand level the record is commercial: Disney+ has been sold in Israel since June 2022. Disney+ is, however, named directly on the BDS movement's official targeted-boycott list — the movement's stated reason is cultural rather than financial, citing Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World and Disney's Snow White and the casting of Shira Haas and Gal Gadot, whom it describes as cultural ambassadors for Israel. The Walt Disney Company launched Disney+ in Israel on 16 June 2022, part of a wave that also took the service into 42 other countries and 11 territories including Lebanon, Jordan, the UAE, Yemen and Turkey. Israeli subscribers sign up directly with Disney, through its own site and apps. At launch the price was NIS 39.90 a month or NIS 399 a year, and Disney said most of the catalogue would be localised into Hebrew — subtitles, with dubbing on children's titles. Disney raised the price for the first time in March 2024, to NIS 44.90 a month and NIS 450 a year; in September 2025 the terms of a Disney promotion disclosed a second rise, to NIS 49.90 a month, which existing monthly subscribers were to pay from November 2025. The Israeli service did not launch on the global Disney+ app but on a separate app operated by Disney's Hotstar subsidiary, which Israel shared with several Asian markets; in August 2026 Disney emailed Israeli subscribers that they would be moved to the global app on 9 September 2026, and that neither the catalogue nor their subscription price would change with the move. This is commercial market activity by the parent company, not a donation or a political statement.
