KFC is a brand of Yum! Brands; its restaurants in Israel have always been run by independent local franchisees, and the brand's history there is checkered: a failed 1980s attempt, a 1993 re-entry that ended with all branches closed by 2012 (the then-owner blamed the switch to kosher preparation), and the February 2020 return via franchisee Mefco. Amid the war-era consumer downturn, Ynet reported that Mefco shut all eight of its branches, leaving roughly a dozen KFC outlets under the other franchisee. Yum! Brands' own ties to Israel sit at the parent level — its 2021 acquisitions of Tel Aviv's Tictuk Technologies and Israeli-founded Dragontail Systems — and are documented on the Yum! Brands page.
