Majid Al Futtaim Holding is a privately held Dubai group that runs shopping malls, cinemas, hotels and grocery retail across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and no recorded donations, investments, contracts or statements in support of Israel were found for it. The point that matters most on this page is a distinction that boycott campaigns routinely collapse: the Carrefour stores in Israel and the Carrefour stores in the Gulf are run by two different, unconnected licensees. Israel's Carrefour-branded supermarkets belong to the Israeli company Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary Yenot Bitan, which signed a franchise agreement with Carrefour S.A. of France in 2022 — and it was those Israeli stores, not the French parent and not Majid Al Futtaim, that announced food parcels for Israeli soldiers in October 2023. Majid Al Futtaim held the separate regional franchise for the Carrefour name (it bought Carrefour Group's remaining 25% stake in Majid Al Futtaim Hypermarkets for €530 million in September 2018, taking 100% ownership of the regional grocery business and running it under its own name and 'M' logo); it has never had a store in Israel, no ownership link to Electra or Yenot Bitan, and no share of their revenue. Operating a French brand's franchise in the Gulf is not evidence of supporting Israel. The consequence for Majid Al Futtaim was financial damage from a boycott aimed at somebody else's stores: group retail EBITDA fell 47% year on year to AED 278 million in the first half of 2024, which the company attributed to weaker consumer sentiment 'following geopolitical conflict in the region' plus currency devaluation in Egypt and Kenya. It then dropped the Carrefour brand market by market — Jordan in November 2024, Oman in January 2025, Bahrain on 14 September 2025 and Kuwait on 16 September 2025 — reopening the stores as its own HyperMax banner and citing demand for locally sourced products rather than the boycott; BDS campaigners claimed the change as a victory, and analysts are divided on how much the boycott drove it. As a private company Majid Al Futtaim files nothing with US regulators, so this record rests on its own published results and press coverage.
