Does Ormat support Israel?

Geothermal power company with deep Israeli roots: founded in Yavne, Israel in 1965 as Ormat Turbines by Lucien (Yehuda) and Yehudit 'Dita' Bronicki, who were awarded the Israel Prize for Industry in 2018. The parent is today Ormat Technologies, a US company headquartered in Reno, Nevada — but its main manufacturing remains at the Yavne plant of its Israeli subsidiary Ormat Systems Ltd., and its shares trade on both the NYSE and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Attribution note: the operating power plants are in the US, Kenya, Guatemala and elsewhere; the Israeli tie is the company's origin, ownership history, Israeli manufacturing base and TASE listing.

About $8.5 million was invested in a new 7,200-square-metre production building at the Ormat plant in Yavne, Israel, inaugurated on 22 September 2009; Calcalist adds that significant further sums went into production equipment, while Globes put the investment at $10 million. Attribution: the investor was Ormat Industries Ltd. (TASE: ORMT) — the Israeli parent Globes names, and the holder of the Israel Land Administration lease — which built the wing on about 24 dunams of additional land beside the existing 74-dunam site. Ormat Industries was absorbed into Ormat Technologies in the February 2015 share exchange, which is how the building became Ormat Technologies' own. Ormat Technologies' FY2009 10-K confirms the construction ("In the second quarter of 2009, we completed construction of a new 75,000 square foot manufacturing facility, which we lease from our parent, adjacent to our existing facility in Yavne, Israel") and lists it under Properties as space subleased from Ormat Industries, at $77,000 a month from 1 April 2009. Chairman Yehuda Bronicki said headcount at Yavne had risen about 30% over the previous two years (Globes put the new hires at 140), and Minister of National Infrastructures Uzi Landau and Yavne mayor Zvi Gov-Ari attended the ceremony. This is capital expenditure on the group's own factory — an investment in its own business, not a donation. Every figure is stated in US dollars in the sources; no shekel conversion is involved.
