Papaya Global is unusual because its public record runs in both directions within a single year. On January 26, 2023, chief executive Eynat Guez announced on Twitter that the company would withdraw all of its funds from Israel in protest at the government's proposed judicial overhaul — a decision reported worldwide, imitated by a handful of other Israeli startups, and treated at the time as a warning signal from the country's technology sector. Nine months later, two days after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, the same company posted under the hashtag #StandWithIsrael that it had donated military equipment to the IDF and food packages to affected civilians, and Guez told an Israeli conference in late 2024 that on October 7 "we realized that we are Israelis first."
