Background

Sephora has never opened stores in Israel, so there is no Israeli exit to report either. Ynetnews wrote in March 2011 that the chain had no plans to open there; French retailer interest in the Israeli market was reported as a rumour in 2017 after Decathlon's successful entry, and it never materialised for Sephora. Israeli media still treat the absence as a live consumer story: the Jerusalem Post covered the March 2025 launch of Factory 54's own beauty chain precisely as the local answer to brands "never available in Israel," and the public broadcaster Kan has reported on why Sephora still has not arrived. What is documented instead runs the other way: Sephora buys from Israeli suppliers — AHAVA since 2009, plus ICG, La Tweez and Mineral Flower — and sent buyers to Israel in 2011 to find more, and it did not drop AHAVA when a French association took it to court in 2010 over the brand's West Bank production. Sephora itself has made no documented donation, in-kind contribution, sponsorship or public statement concerning Israel or the war that began on 7 October 2023. Claims made about "Sephora and Israel" usually reach for its parent: LVMH Luxury Ventures led a $90 million round for the Israeli lab-grown diamond maker Lusix in June 2022, and Aglaé Ventures — the family office of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, legally separate from the listed company — invested in the Israeli cybersecurity firm Wiz in 2021. Those are LVMH and Arnault-family acts and belong on LVMH's page, not to the retail chain.

Partnership2009Israeli cosmetics makers — AHAVA Dead Sea Laboratories, ICG, La Tweez, Mineral Flower
Sephora, the LVMH-owned beauty chain, is a retail buyer of Israeli cosmetics brands. It began selling products of the Israeli Dead Sea brand AHAVA in 2009, and by March 2011 Ynetnews reported that its shelves also carried the Israeli brands ICG, La Tweez and Mineral Flower. The commercial relationship was tested in court: in May 2010 the French pro-Palestinian association CAPJPO-EuroPalestine summoned Sephora before the tribunal de grande instance of Nanterre, arguing that by retailing AHAVA products manufactured at Mitzpe Shalem in the occupied West Bank the chain was supporting a violation of international law; the campaign included protests outside the Sephora store at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. Sephora kept the brand on sale — Ynetnews still listed AHAVA among the Israeli brands Sephora stocked ten months after the summons. This is a supplier and retail relationship with Israeli companies, not a donation to Israeli state, military or political bodies.
Operations in Israel2011-03Israeli cosmetics industry — sourcing mission to Israel
In March 2011 senior Sephora executives — vice-president and chief merchant Patrice Brosson and exclusive brand sourcing manager Stephanie Sheperis — travelled to Israel and met about 15 Israeli cosmetics companies to scout brands for the chain's international shelves, a sourcing mission aimed at helping Israeli exporters reach global markets in a sector that exported some $485 million in 2010. Ynetnews reported at the same time that the chain had no plans to open stores in Israel. The act recorded here is commercial sourcing by Sephora itself, not investment in or aid to any Israeli institution.
