Background
Toblerone is a Swiss chocolate brand owned by Mondelez International, and no donation, in-kind gift, sponsorship or statement of support for Israel, its government or its military has been documented for the Toblerone brand. Its only documented Israeli connection is commercial: the bars are imported and distributed by independent Israeli companies — Diplomat Group, which markets Mondelez brands in Israel, and since 2023 also Carmit Candy Industries. Parent-level Israel activity documented on the Mondelez page is likewise commercial: the 2019 collaboration with The Kitchen FoodTech incubator owned by Israel's Strauss Group, and 2020 and 2022 investments in the Israeli startup Torr FoodTech. Neither Toblerone nor Mondelez appears on the BDS movement's official targeted-boycott list; unofficial boycott posts that name Toblerone cite the parent's Israeli foodtech ties or simply the brand's presence on Israeli shelves. Note that Toblerone's own best-known controversy has nothing to do with Israel: in 2023 the Matterhorn was removed from its packaging after some production moved out of Switzerland, breaching Swiss 'Swissness' labelling rules.

| Operations in Israel | 2023-09 | — | Diplomat Group and Carmit Candy Industries (independent Israeli distributors) Toblerone reaches Israeli shelves as an imported Mondelez brand handled by independent Israeli distributors. Diplomat Group, the long-standing Israeli marketer of Mondelez products, lists Toblerone on its Mondelez vendor page alongside Milka, Oreo and Cadbury; Calcalist reported in September 2023 that Mondelez was adding a second Israeli distributor, Carmit Candy Industries, as it introduced the Marabou chocolate brand to Israel. The acting parties in Israel are these independent distributors — Mondelez has no Toblerone factory or Toblerone subsidiary in Israel, and Toblerone itself is manufactured in Bern, Switzerland. This is commercial import and distribution, not a donation, sponsorship or political act. |
