Does Verizon Communications Inc. support Israel?

Verizon's corporate venture arm, Verizon Ventures, formed a dedicated Israel unit based in Tel Aviv in mid-2017 and made 13 investments in Israeli startups over about five years, including Cellwize (later acquired by Qualcomm), Vdoo (acquired by JFrog), Iguazio (acquired by McKinsey), Optibus, Wiliot and SAM Seamless Network. The relationship ended: Verizon closed the Tel Aviv ventures office in March 2023, citing a strategy refocused on the U.S. market.

The Verizon Foundation — the company's charitable foundation, not the operating company — committed $2 million to humanitarian relief after the 7 October 2023 attacks, naming American Friends of Magen David Adom (the U.S. fundraising arm of Israel's national emergency medical service) and Save the Children, which works with children in Gaza. The amount is an aggregate commitment split across organizations serving both Israeli and Palestinian civilians; Verizon additionally matched employee donations of up to $1,000.

Verizon (the operating company) waived international long-distance, roaming and data charges for postpaid consumer, business wireless and residential landline customers calling or texting Israel and the Palestinian territories, retroactive from 7 October through 31 October 2023 (prepaid from 14 October); Afghanistan was covered in the same waiver. A humanitarian connectivity measure applied to both sides of the conflict, not Israel-specific support.
