Xerox's history with Israel cuts both ways. In the mid-1960s the company was placed on the Arab League's boycott blacklist — reportedly for sponsoring television documentaries about Israel — and stayed on it for roughly two decades, opening an office in Egypt in 1978 while still blacklisted. Conversely, in 1983 Xerox agreed to pay a fine and accept a six-month cut in export privileges to most Arab countries over alleged violations of the US law banning cooperation with the Arab boycott of Israel. Its present-day footprint in Israel consists of the Xerox Israel subsidiary and the XMPie software unit acquired in 2006.
