Background
Two Israeli ice-cream stories are often confused. Ben & Jerry's Israel was sold in June 2022 to Unilever's long-time Israeli licensee Avi Zinger (American Quality Products) as part of a legal settlement — that deal covered Ben & Jerry's only. Magnum was never part of it: Magnum in Israel is made and sold by the Israeli ice-cream company known locally as Strauss Ice Cream (Glidot Strauss), which Unilever owned outright and which passed, in the 2025 ice-cream demerger, to The Magnum Ice Cream Company N.V. Despite the name, this business is not owned by Israel's Strauss Group; it uses the historic Israeli brand name, which is now being phased out in favour of Magnum. It is also not the Zinger operation, and it is not Froneri, which holds Nestlé-brand ice cream elsewhere. So a Magnum bought in Israel is largely made in Israel, in Acre, with Israeli employment and taxes — while some variants are imported from Europe and Turkey. No donation, in-kind aid or statement of support for the Israeli state, army or any Israeli organisation is documented for the Magnum brand, for Unilever's former Israeli ice-cream unit or for The Magnum Ice Cream Company; what is documented is manufacturing and commercial presence. The new company also inherited the Ben & Jerry's dispute over that brand's pro-Palestinian statements, which is documented on the Unilever page.
